Ingeteam commissioned bigD the Industrial Re-Design of its hybrid inverter (solar+batteries) 1Play TL M. Up to date they had a model that needed to be updated. It had been detected that a new product image, more friendly and technological would be better received among its target audience.

From bigD we approached both the conceptualization of the product and the first approach of aluminum injectable parts for the enclosures. At the same time, an extensive market study was carried out, proposing different alternatives for the interaction interface of the product. And a rethinking of the parts that favored the ergonomics of the user, at the time of installation and maintenance.

How to upgrade a product design while respecting all inner electronics distribution, costs, disipation requirements, Ip degree, connectors, assembly process, etc ? That was the challenge from Ingeteam, a global industry leader in renewable energy solutions. They commissioned to bigD the redesign its hybrid inverter, looking for a product that could also be installed in a personal garage and not only in an industrial environment. The previous product moulds were already starting to fail and there was an urgent need of a new design to be done in a very short time.
When facing a redesign project, designers have to learn from the possitive aspects of the existing product and try to respect them. “As little design as possible” D. Spanish fashion designer Balenciaga used to say “the detail has to be in the back”. We’ve taken care that the product looks awesome no matter from where you look at it. The disipation fins in the back are the result of complex heat disipation analysis.
Ingeteam led a demanging study for designing the dissipation fins that had to be integrated in the product design. Two fans located in the bottom of the product propel air towards the top until it evacuates the inverter.
+26 kg required some thinking to make life easier for the technician, furthermore when the product weight is unbalanced and located in the upper part of it. Two handles were implemented in the casings without incrementing mould costs.
