3D sensor for quality inspection
ABB’s 3DVM GSC department asked bigD and Wehl&Partner for the industrial design of their new 3D sensor and the support in the manufacture of the first functional prototypes, as well as the first series.
The result was a project developed in record time with an outstanding design and functional prototypes from the very first unit.

The challenge
How to realise a flawless design of a complex product, which can be manufactured with additive technologies, at minimum cost but still looking like a final product?
The only way was the close collaboration between a leading industrial design company (bigD) and a leading manufacturing company (Wehl&Partner).
The difficulty in this project was to engineer the enclosures to get it right from prototype 0.
